Supporting Cultural Integration for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Bright Path Futures make and share learning resources for people wanting to improve their English, better understand UK life and culture and support their own wellbeing.

We work with organisations across the UK, creating and sharing on line training videos to help both volunteers and paid staff in a wide range of sectors and settings understand how to use our resources most effectively.

In an environment where both ESOL provision and mental health support can be hard to access for new arrivals, our commitment is to help build capacity and access to self-led learning for some of our most vulnerable populations, and help provide a warm welcome for those in need.

Practice Your English Learning Resources

Our resources teach a unique set of language topics created from direct observation of what people need to be able to say when they are settling in to the UK and looking to make connections with others. The videos focus on pronunciation and explanation of context, with first language subtitled playlists in all key languages linked to fully translated workbooks.

For non-literate beginners we’ve created practical first stage literacy (phonics) support pages, with pictures of words from their own language to help learn letter sounds.

Welcome to the UK booklets

This book covers all the key topics needed for initial orientation to life in the UK. Between them the authors have both lived experience of arriving and settling as a refugee and years of experience creating and teaching cultural orientation programmes for new arrivals.

Fully fact checked, translated into multiple languages and with professional design and photos to make it attractive and fully accessible, the book is designed both as a self-access resource and also to save time for support workers and volunteers needing to ensure understanding of complex cultural, practical and legal issues.

We also have animated audio versions of the book in Dari and Pashto so support non-L1 literate Afghan people to access the information more easily.

Practice Your English for Schools

We have partnered with school teachers to produce this unique and comprehensive resource, translated into all of our key languages.

Covering a wide range of language topics, the book includes classroom language, peer-to-peer conversations, support needs and language needed to navigate your way around the complex world of subjects, uniforms, school dinners, term dates, assessments and much more.

It includes embedded audio links for pronunciation, and can be used independently in a family setting, by teachers or TAs in school (either in small group or 1:1 settings).

Amiko Cards for Wellbeing

Available in a range of formats (as playing cards, a booklet, group work printed squares and posters) the Amiko cards offer beautifully simple reminders of ways we can help our own wellbeing. All resources are available in our full language range, and use pictures and colour to engage and help people remember the contents.

The Amiko coaching activities booklet outlines key approaches to wellbeing development work: simple activities that can be done alone, in pairs or in a group context, with some key psychological / coaching principles introduced to deepend understanding of wellbeing and personal effectiveness.

Tried and tested in a range of contexts over several years, we’ve taken time to boil down what we think works best to something anyone can pick up and safely use without in-depth training. Session plans and additional teacher support material is also available for those wishing to develop capacity and effectiveness in offering wellbeing support.

Twelve Languages and Counting

Our resources are in twelve languages, those commonly spoken by refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Each language has a video playlist and workbook. For many such people accessing face to face classes and learning resources at the right level can be challenging so the resources are designed for self access as well as classroom use and learning 1:1 with volunteer supporters
