Our resources teach a unique set of language topics created from direct observation of the language people need when settling in the UK.
The videos focus on language context and pronunciation, with first language subtitled playlists linked to fully translated workbooks.
For non-literate beginners we’ve created language specific phonics picture keys, to help learn letter sounds.
Welcome to the UK booklets
This book covers all the key topics needed for initial orientation to life in the UK. Between them the authors have both lived experience of arriving and settling as a refugee and years of experience creating and teaching cultural orientation programmes for new arrivals.
Fully fact checked, translated into multiple languages and with professional design and photos to make it attractive and fully accessible, the book is designed both as a self-access resource and also to save time for support workers and volunteers needing to ensure understanding of complex cultural, practical and legal issues.
We also have animated audio versions of the book in Dari and Pashto so support non-L1 literate Afghan people to access the information more easily.
Practise Your English for Under-18s
We have partnered with school staff to produce this unique and comprehensive first language resource.
Topics include classroom language, peer conversations, support needs and language needed to navigate your way around the complex world of subjects, uniforms, school dinners, term dates, assessments and more.
It includes embedded audio links for pronunciation, and can be used either in schools or independently in a care setting.
Amiko Cards for Wellbeing
Available in a range of formats (as playing cards, a booklet, group work printed squares and posters) the Amiko cards offer beautifully simple reminders of ways we can help our own wellbeing. All resources are available in our full language range, and use pictures and colour to engage and help people remember the contents.
Our coaching activities booklet outlines simple activities to be used alongside the cards, for either 1:1 or in group context, with some key psychological / principles simply explained.
Thirteen Languages and Counting
Our resources are in thirteen languages, those commonly spoken by refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Each language has a video playlist and workbook. For many such people accessing face to face classes and learning resources at the right level can be challenging so the resources are designed for self access as well as classroom use and learning 1:1 with volunteer supporters
